kristaupher : What is Autumn Equinox Anyway?

It has been a tradition at kristaupher to begin our Autumn & Winter holiday season each year on the Autumn Equinox. Simply put, this particular astrological event officially marks the end of Summer and begins the transition into Fall/Autumn within the Northern Hemisphere. Whether you are just getting to know the style of kristaupher or whether you have shared and enjoyed it for years, there is one thing that you will always find; simple, traditional elegance.

kristaupher wanted to have a simple way for visitors to remember when the Autumn & Winter collection is presented. Autumn Equinox was the perfect answer. Although it does not always fall on the same day each year, it is easier to remember than checking for a specific date on a website or conflicting with a traditional holiday like Thanksgiving where it is always the 4th Thursday of November. Autumn Equinox is typically marked on the calendar and is easily associated with festive celebrations and long-standing traditions in many cultures.

For those of you that would like to know a bit more about this event, the word "equinox" comes from Latin meaning "equal night." You may find it interesting that the sun rises in "true East" only twice each year. The first is in March and marks the beginning of Spring and the second is in September which marks the beginning of Autumn. The rest of the sunrises throughout the year rise between 32 degrees North of East and 32 degrees South of East.

Now this is most likely more information than one would typically ever associate with this event, however, the event is also surrounded with many myths. You may have heard that it is at this time where an equal amount of day and night occur. This is hard to fully conclude as 100% true since night and day and the amounts thereof are relative to where you are on the Earth.

It is also said that this is the only time ( within a couple of hours before and after ) where one can balance an egg on its end on a smooth flat surface. Now this is something that we just may try out for ourselves. Maybe you can try it at home and provide us with your findings? What is the worse thing that could happen? You may have a small mess to clean up and an automatic entry into the kristaupher Giveaway™ just for sharing your story.

Above all, it is a magical time when Mother Nature begins to paint us an amazing landscape and the first cool breezes brush against our sun-kissed faces. It is a time when we pause, softly exhale and relax comfortably in our favorite evening sweater.

It is a time for kristaupher.
